The layette must be practical, with basic pieces and without much embroidery, ribbons and laces, so that they may be machine washed and dried.

Include pieces size XS (premature), because the initial baby growth is slow and large clothes are more difficult to be handled.

Baby monitor: very important, especially for those days when you are so tired that you think you are dreaming there is someone crying, and this device tells you the truth! (Liliane)

Bibs: used a lot in the beginning. After the 6th month choose plastic bibs, which are much more practical to be cleaned after meals, and you will only need three of them, and not that mountain of cloth bibs.

Bouncer: very useful to bottle-feed, to give the first foods and to transport the babies (it can be used in place of bassinets)

Portable cribs: they are essential if you travel a lot, but they are also a good option for the babies to play in – they work as a play yard.

Bag for bottles/diapers: Get a big one in which you can put the three babies’ stuff.

Car seat: In the beginning, by the 6th month the bouncer itself may be used in the car, ideally with a cushion to support the baby’s head and neck. After 6 or 8 months the bouncer must be replaced by larger car seats.

High chair: If you want the three babies to eat at the same time, you will have to get three high chairs, but you can take turns if you get only one or two.

Baby stroller: Strollers for triplets do exist; however, it might be inconvenient to transport them in a car and to push them in narrow places. The best, initially, is a stroller for twins and another single stroller. If getting the two strollers is not feasible, choose the stroller for twins, which will accommodate the three babies for as long as they are small. If you decide to get three single strollers, you will need two more people to help you stroll!

Bottle sterilizer: Get one in which you can place the largest number of bottles. It may be electrical or to be used in the microwave oven. However, in the absence of a sterilizer, the bottles may be boiled in a pan.

Diapers: The store must be large, because you will need at least 24 diapers each day and you will have to try different brands until you find the one that best fits your babies. If they are premature, even the size S diapers will be large, so you may adjust them by using adhesive tape!! Nurses at the hospital will show you how to do it. After finding out the best brand, look for the wholesalers who sell them in bales. It will be a lot cheaper.

Burp cloth: very important, because the babies spit up a lot when they are young. Keep three always at hand, in the car and in the bag.

Stroller sheet: it is hygienic, especially when the babies spit up frequently.

Maternity bag: choose only one, labeling the clothes with the babies’ names or separating them in three smaller bags.

Bottles: at least 24 a day. At first, choose small bottles (130 to 150ml)

Bassinet: if you got a bouncer there is no need to get a bassinet. It would be difficult to find room to store so many things in the house!!

Ear thermometer: It is the most practical way to measure the baby’s temperature. It is almost impossible to use conventional thermometers given that the babies never keep quiet. All you have to do with ear thermometers is to touch the baby with it and it is done!
